I am away. I am staying at the Cozy Cottage/Pet Haven with North. We are just one and a half hours away from home but by the looks of the cows, goats and the horse right outside my window – I beg to differ. We are surrounded by utter quiet – peace – other than North’s excitement with our new found friend, Mick (the horse).
I can get lost in the mountains over the horizon.
The clouds pass me by waving – hello again, dear friend.
North gallivants her way to Mick.
They dance with one another while my camera bursts with photos of these very moments.
I think I am lost – but it’s the lost I’ve been seeking for so long now.
It’s where I can hear my own thoughts – clear as a sunny day. It’s when I hear the fans of this room racing against one another, lap after lap. I haven’t been this lost for quite some time.
It feels nice.
Peaceful.
Refreshing.
The air is crisp and cool. I watch as leaves fly across the grassy ballroom floor. Then a moth hangs on for dear life right outside the window. All I see is this beautiful landscape of peace and love all in one.
The trees in the distance are beginning to change their colors. What a magical thing they do – every year around this time – they choose to change into something more vibrant, colorful, unique to each its’ own.
I wonder now. Would one feel if they knew – they too could change as often as they choose…
Where would you be right now?
TOUR THE COZY COTTAGE/PET HAVEN
Now that I’ve painted the scenery of complete serenity…let me give you some details about exactly where I am. I mentioned this Heaven Saken Hideaway. It is to die for. No really. It’s a quaint little cottage all by itself in the middle of practically nowhere…or so it feels. The hostess, Kelly was wonderful. She ensured I had everything I needed before arriving. The kitchen has all the necessities you’d need to cook your own meals along with a cute little round table to gather around with friends or family to chat, play cards or just enjoy a hearty meal together.
Come with me here and let’s take a tour of this lovely cottage or as I like to call it…the Heaven Saken Hideaway!
THE QUIET THAT SURROUNDS ME
I chose to disconnect with the world and enter the haven of Mother Nature. Outside of the cottage in the front fenced-in yard is a hammock. I mean, come on…a hammock too! Paradise, friends. Every morning I’d bring myself outside and relax on the hammock in the crisp, fall air to enjoy my coffee, book and watching North play with Mick, the cows and the goats. Literally, this was heaven! No one in sight. No cars in sight. North’s chatter to Mick and the galavanting of the goats every time North challenged them at the fence was the only noise present.
I was here for it.
For all of it.
Look for yourself!!!
THIS IS HEAVEN.
North loved the front fenced-in yard. Absolutely loved it! She’d run from one end of the yard to the other along the fence line with Mick. It was so fun to watch.
My TRUE NORTH.
Living her best life. Ah, the memories.
After North and I had our breakfast and coffee, haha, I packed up my hiking bag for the two of us so we could carryon to our next adventure. You can join me on that adventure here, Buzzard Rock and Copernicus Ridge Trail.
The home is very clean and I felt completely safe during my stay. The bed upstairs was sooooo comfortable. North would agree. There’s a tv in the upstairs room which was very nice. We laid together watching iZombie. Have you seen it? I know…squirrel moment for me. But it is so good! I successfully did this until my eyes became stronger than my resistance and off to dream land I went.
WHERE TO FIND SOME ADVENTURES AND GRUB FOR THE BELLY
The George Washington National Forest is all of 20 minutes at most from this location. If you love to hike or just be out and around in Mother Nature. This is it for you. It was the perfect destination for someone like me who loves to hike but loves all the amenities of being at ‘home’ too. There are restaurants approximately 30 minutes away in Front Royal and Woodstock. BUT…there is a small General Store just down the street from the Cozy Cottage/Pet Haven that I made trips to for last minute things I forgot to pick up when in town. Convenience, friends. I love convenience when I want to be lazy and not make another 30 minute drive. If you’re into breweries…or if you’re a hiker and you love a nice cold beer after a good hike, then stop by the Woodstock Brew House. Their buffalo sirracha wings…delish!!
If you have a dog, they’re welcomed to the outdoor patio area too. I loved that for North and I.
This Heaven Saken Hideaway impressed me so much with the comfort of the cottage, the serene beauty all around me and the close proximity to hiking trails, I made another trip to this very location (again) with my daughter just 4 weeks later.
So Let Me Ask You…
Are you looking for somewhere new to adventure off to but not sure where to stay?
If you’re in Virginia or planning to visit, you’ll want to check out the Cozy Cottage/Pet Haven in Fort Valley, VA.
You won’t regret it!!
